For students
Finding and joining a class
Upcoming classes are listed on Praxium Live. A live course has a limited number of seats — buying it reserves yours, and enrolment closes when the first session starts. If it's sold out you can join the waitlist: when a seat frees up, the next person is offered it for a limited time.
Some self-paced courses also include live sessions. Those can have a limited number of places — reserve one from the session in the course, or join its waitlist.
To join, open the course and click the session (also under My Courses → Upcoming live sessions). The classroom opens 15 minutes before the start: you wait there until the instructor starts the class. Times are always shown in your own time zone.
Devices and browsers
- No app to install — a current Chrome, Edge, Firefox or Safari on a computer, tablet or phone.
- Before joining you can check your camera and microphone and pick which ones to use.
- Use headphones if you may speak, so your speakers don't echo into the class.
- Phones and tablets can watch, chat and speak when invited; sharing your screen needs a computer.
- Make the class bigger with Full screen (top-right of the video); on a computer you can also hide the chat. Turn your phone sideways and the class fills the screen — tap to bring the buttons back.
In the class
- Chat with the class at any time while it's running. Keep it respectful — a filter blocks slurs and masks profanity, and you can report a message to our team.
- Raise your hand to ask something out loud. Whether students can use their camera or microphone is the instructor's choice — off, allowed, or only when they bring you "on stage".
- The instructor can mute you, turn off your chat or remove you from the class.
- After the class the chat stays readable (read-only) for students who were enrolled before it ended.
- When the instructor uses the whiteboard it fills the screen and follows their pages. Afterwards you can download it from the session (a picture per page).
Reminders and calendars
We remind you 24 hours and 15 minutes before each session, by email and in the app, and tell you when a class starts. Use Add to calendar on the session (Google, Outlook or an .ics file for Apple Calendar and others) — if the time changes, the calendar entry updates. You can turn reminder emails off under notification settings ("Live classes"); notices that a session moved or a course was cancelled are always sent.
Missed, moved or cancelled sessions
- If the instructor is late, the waiting screen says so after 5 minutes. If the class hasn't been opened 10 minutes after the start, the session is rescheduled and you're told the new time.
- If the instructor's connection is lost for 15 minutes, the class ends and will be rescheduled.
- A moved session doesn't make the course refundable. If the new time doesn't work for you, contact us — if the session is recorded, its replay counts towards your certificate.
- If an instructor cancels a live course, everyone is refunded in full automatically.
- Refunds: a live course can be refunded until its first session starts — see the refund policy.
Recordings and replays
A notice shows in the classroom while a class is being recorded. Recordings show the instructor, their screen and the whiteboard — never students' cameras or names. When a recording is ready it appears on the session as Watch the replay.
If the instructor allowed students' voices in the recording, only students who were enrolled before that session ended can watch it.
Attendance and certificates
Your time in each session is recorded automatically. You're counted as attending when you were there for at least 70% of the class — leaving and rejoining is fine; the times add up. Each session shows your result after it ends.
A course's certificate can require a share of its live sessions (70% unless the instructor sets another number); the course shows where you stand. Watching the replay of a recorded session you missed counts towards it.
For instructors
Scheduling live sessions
- A live course: Dashboard → Live Classes → New live event — a one-off class or a weekly series, sold with a seat limit.
- A session inside any course: in a lesson, Add content → Live session.
- Sessions run from 15 minutes to 3 hours. Pick the time in your own time zone; students see it in theirs. Two of your sessions can't overlap.
- Where: the Praxium classroom (recommended — attendance, chat and recording are built in), or a link to Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams or Webex.
Seats, waitlists and enrolment
Set the seat limit on the course's Live sessions settings. When it's full, students join a waitlist and are offered freed seats in turn; you can also offer the next seat yourself. Enrolment closes when the first session starts. After the last session you can keep selling the course as Recorded live (with its replays) or close it.
Before class
- You can open the classroom up to 60 minutes early to set up; students can wait from 15 minutes before.
- Use a computer, a wired or strong connection, and headphones. Turn on Do Not Disturb.
- Teaching from a phone? Hold it sideways — upright, students see a narrow strip. (Sharing your screen needs a computer.)
- When sharing, share a single window rather than your whole screen, so notifications and other tabs stay private.
Running the class
- Students stay in the waiting room until you press Start class. Classes end at End class, or after 3 hours at the latest.
- Choose whether students may use their camera and microphone: Off, Allowed, or On stage only (you bring someone on stage from the People list — handy for raised hands).
- From the People list: mute, turn a camera off, lower a hand, or remove someone. You can lock the class to stop new arrivals.
- Chat: delete messages, mute someone in the chat, or turn on slow mode.
- If your connection drops, students stay in the class — rejoin from the same link. After 15 minutes away the class ends and needs a new time.
The whiteboard
- Press Open the board (the pen button) — it fills the stage and your camera moves to a corner. Draw with the pen, shapes, arrows and text; an iPad with Apple Pencil works well.
- New page adds a page; ‹ › move between pages — students follow the page you're on. Students watch; they can't draw.
- Add PDF turns each slide into a page you can write on (up to 60 slides, 30 MB). Saved boards loads the board of an earlier session of the course.
- Course visuals puts something you already made on the board: a diagram, figure or image from this course, your other courses or your content library (search finds it across all of them). Pick one to see it first, then Insert on the board — it lands in the middle, selected, so you can move or resize it. Flowcharts and similar diagrams become shapes you can move and retype; figures, images and other diagrams go on as a picture you write over.
- The board is saved as you go. After the class, students who were enrolled can download it (a picture per page).
- Sharing your screen closes the board; open it again any time — nothing is lost.
Recording
- Turn recording on in the session's settings; it starts by itself at Start class, and you can stop or restart it.
- Recordings show you and your screen, never students' cameras or names.
- Students' voices: "instructor only" recordings become replays and library videos you can reuse in your courses. Recordings that include students' voices are shown only to that session's students and are never reused.
- If a recording can't start, the class carries on without it — you'll see a message; try again in a minute.
Rescheduling and cancelling
- Move a session: edit it and pick a new time — students are told straight away and their calendars update. A missed session must be rescheduled; you'll get a daily reminder until it is.
- Cancel a live course: course settings → Live sessions → Cancel this live course. Every student is refunded in full and you earn nothing from the course.
- Delete a session: one that hasn't happened can be deleted (from the session, the curriculum or your library) — enrolled students are told it won't take place; deleting its lesson or module deletes it too. A missed session with students has to be rescheduled instead. Once a class has run with students (attendance, chat or a recording) it stays part of their history: unpublish it instead. A test run nobody joined can be deleted.
Attendance and certificates
Attendance is recorded automatically (70% of a class = attended). See it in the course's Enrollments list (Live sessions column) and download it as CSV. Set how many sessions the certificate needs on the course's Live sessions settings.
